Memorial Funds

1935–2026

Hunting, fishing, and time spent outdoors were an important part of Darrell Schafer’s life. He spent countless days hunting ducks and geese with close friends, fishing the lakes around Moses Lake, and making annual fishing trips to Alaska. Some of his favorite memories, and many of his longest friendships, grew from those experiences.

Just as important to Darrell was helping others. He was an exceptionally generous man who quietly helped people throughout his life, often without expecting recognition in return. Children held a special place in his heart. During his 50 years as a dentist in Moses Lake, he cared for generations of families and served as president of the Washington Society of Dentistry for Children.

When it came time to choose an organization for memorial donations in our dad’s honor, we wanted it to represent the things that mattered to him and the kind of person he was. We chose Youth Outdoors Unlimited because it brings together his love of hunting and fishing, his generosity, and his desire to help children and those in need.

Our dad understood how much a day outdoors could mean. It could become a favorite memory, the beginning of a friendship, or a story told for years to come. Knowing that donations made in his memory can help create those experiences for children and their families makes Youth Outdoors Unlimited especially meaningful to us.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who chooses to honor our dad’s memory by supporting Youth Outdoors Unlimited.

The Jason Ellis Burnham Memorial Fund was created to honor “Jake”, who passed away after a ten year fight with cancer. His passions were family, kids, and hunting. If you would like to make a donation in Jake’s honor click here.
